A multi-pair telephone cable allows the simultaneous transmission of multiple voice or data signals through a single bundled line.
Features
Space efficiency: Combines multiple transmission paths into a single compact cable, reducing the space required in conduits and trays compared to laying individual cables.
Simple field termination: Pair identification through color coding and bundling tapes facilitates quick splicing and connectorization.
Robust outer cover: Available in PVC, LSZH (low smoke and halogen free) or PE (polyethylene) for indoor, outdoor or riser applications.
Crosstalk protection: Twisted pairs—and sometimes an overall foil shield—reduce signal leakage between channels, allowing simultaneous transmission of voice or data.
Scalability: Allows the incremental addition of lines (e.g., telephone extensions or DSL circuits) without the need to lay new cables.
Applications
Analog telephone extension lines: Provides multiple POTS (Basic Telephone Service) connections from a central telephone system to individual desks or rooms using a single cable.
DSL signal distribution: Simultaneously transports ADSL/VDSL broadband signals from a DSLAM to multiple subscribers via twisted pairs, either in an apartment building or in an outdoor distribution cabinet.
Alarm signaling and control: Transmits low-speed data for fire alarm systems, intrusion detection, or remote relay controls, taking advantage of the available free pairs in the same cable.
Temporary event communications: Implemented as a multi-line trunk cable at outdoor events (e.g., fairs, stadiums) to connect temporary telephone booths or intercom stations.
