The correct way to refer to the common “RJ45 plug” is the 8P8C RJ45 Ethernet connector. This long name really nails it. The 8P8C stands for eight positions/eight conductors. It refers to a type of modular plug that is typically used at the end of Ethernet patch cables, and when plugged into the end of an Ethernet cable, it is called an RJ45 8P8C plug.
