On November 6, the world's largest submarine cable project, the 2Africa submarine cable, successfully landed in Marseille, France.
According to Hong Kong IDC Xintianyu Interconnection, 2Africa has a total length of 47,000 kilometers and connects 46 submarine cable landing stations in 33 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe, and is expected to be operational by 2024. The submarine cable adopts the latest technology, deploying up to 16 pairs of optical fibers via ASN SDM1, and the core has a design capacity of up to 180 Tbps and can be combined with optical switching technology to achieve flexible bandwidth management.
Marseille now has 16 submarine cables, and the arrival of 2Africa further solidifies its position as a major European data center. According to Telegeography's latest State of the Internet 2021 report, Marseille ranks seventh among the world's top ten internet hubs, while Hong Kong, China, ranks slightly higher at sixth, providing ample network resources to meet diverse business needs. Hong Kong's IDC Xintianyu Internet, as a local ISP operator, operates and manages several high-level Tier 3+ data centers, assisting global companies in deploying international nodes.
2Africa successfully landed in Genoa, Italy and Barcelona, Spain earlier this year, before landing in Marseille, France.
