The STP patch cable complies with ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1, ISO/IEC 11801 2nd edition (2002), and CENELEC EN50173 (2002) for Category 6/Class E. It has been tested up to 300 MHz and is designed for high-speed protocols such as ATM 622 Mbps and Gigabit Ethernet 1000 Mbps applications. It consists of a flexible patch cable and termination with two modular plugs.

The F/UTP Cat6 structured cabling system allows for the installation of a generic telecommunications infrastructure within a building, creating a local area network (LAN). Category 6 is described in the TIA/EIA 568B.2-1, ISO/IEC 11801, and EN 50173-1 standards and allows for speeds up to 1000 Mbps within an Ethernet environment. It can also carry other signals such as basic telephony services, Token Ring, and ATM. Designed for transmission at frequencies up to 250 MHz, the complete FTP Cat6 cabling system includes LSHF cable, female modules, 24-port patch panels, patch panels, and patch cords of various lengths and colors. A star-shaped center filler is used to maintain and enhance cable performance. A transparent Mylar tape wraps the assembly, and there is an aluminum foil shield with 24 AWG drain wire. The aluminum screen provides protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) that can affect data transmission at high frequencies.
